Chase Briscoe has revealed an additional hurdle that he faced during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last weekend. After a crash in Phoenix, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver sustained a sprained wrist.
The Indiana-born driver ended up crossing the line in 17th position.
Briscoe was involved in a multi-car wreck in Phoenix, which also included Cole Custer, Riley Herbst, Brad Keselowski, Carson Hocevar, Justin Haley, and Shane van Gisbergen.
The JGR driver took responsibility for the crash, stating to FS1 after the race:
"Yeah that was about the biggest you can crash at Phoenix. Yeah, it was a big one. Just on that restart we're all kind of three-, four-wide and I just climbed over the seven's right front, so yeah unfortunate. We were able to go to the tail and drove back up to like 13th. Felt good about our Bass Pro Shops Toyota.
"I got myself in a bad spot. I was probably trying to fade a little more left just knowing that the 77 was on my right rear, and climbed over the 7's right front. Unfortunate, but try to learn from it and not do that again. On to Vegas."
This isn't the first issue Briscoe has run into this year. The driver and his team, Joe Gibbs Racing, were each handed a 100-point penalty due to a modified single-source part. His crew chief, James Small, was also hit with a four-race ban and a $100,000 fine. However, the penalty was reversed after Joe Gibbs Racing appealed the punishment.

Speaking about the successful appeal, Briscoe explained:
“Yeah it’s crazy. The amount of relief I felt, honestly just, I felt like a new man the rest of the week. So yeah it’s been nice. Not that our season was over but it kind of felt that way to a certain extent. I mean, we could have still won a race, right, and made the playoffs but you’re going to be at such a deficit the whole season.
"So, yeah, I definitely felt like I got a new life in a sense just because it stings when it’s the first race, right, and you’re kind of buried the whole season. But now I feel like I’m back on a level playing field.”
